ARRÁBIDA BRIDGE, OVER THE DOURO RIVER

Project Description

Suspension bridge over Zambeze river, of 3 central spans with 180m and 2 lateral spans of
90m. Original solution, similar to the bridge over the Save river, where the classical rigidity
beam of the traditional suspended bridges was replaced by two pre-stressed cables along
the entire bridge, with inclined suspenders and funicular cables, a highly stable structure
with very low deflections.
Bridge with total extension of 614,4m, with a deck 26,5m wide. Arch built with two box ribs joined by bracing, with a span of 270 m and the arch is 52 m tall, world record at the time.
